Wasn't there a debate about htis a while ago .... ? I seem to recall there was a suggestion that Advanced Nitrox on it's own did not allow accelerated deco I'll go see if I can find it..... EDIT - Okay Here it is ..... near the end, Mark Powell got a clarification from TDI HQ Mal Last edited by Mal Bridgeman : 04-01-08 at 05:29 PM. |

| What a daft qualification. IMHO the only reason to have nitrox past say 40% would be for accelerated deco so Advanced Nitrox and Deco procedures should be one course. ATB Mark

| The whole issue is a bit clouded and IMHO the situation is a bit daft. TDI Adv Nx allows you to use mixes up to 100% but not for accelerated deco. Quite why you want to pay out for a nice rich mix and then not be able to use it to accelerate your deco is a bit hard to work out. I suppose you can always say it adds a nice safety factor to your dive? The Deco procedures teaches you to complete staged (accelerated) deco but doesn't allow you to go and buy stronger mixes on its own....???? Very confusing and a bit frustrating. I was faced with paying out to do an adv nx course, which was bascially repeating my existing Nx cert. In the end I opted to go for the course which taught me how to use the stuff safely rather than the course which allowed me to buy it but not to be able to use it my advantage. I guess its a clever marketing ploy by TDI to get you to pay out for both courses. |

With TDI, the Adv EAN course allows you to use richer mixes - but as a safety factor rather than to accelerate deco. The decompression course is where this is taught. I guess you could be cynical about this, but the skills required to do staged decompression are taught on the deco course, so if you F**k up a gas switch when it's only a safety factor then you've just lost your safety factor rather as opposed to doing the same thing on accelerated decompression where it is then more critical to manage your gas switches. the reality is that one set of skills is so closely linked to the other that most instructors team combined courses over three or four days.
