We have a compressor, but no O2. Mainly because being a central London club, it's cheaper and easier for out members to go to their LDS then to drive into town.

I think BSAC did a survey a little while ago as part of the gas blender rewrite which showed that several hundred clubs are set up for Nitrox. Most of it is by partial pressure blending, but one or two have membrane systems, and two use molecular weighing! (I presume they're uni clubs in science departments)

Hi.

We have at Hull branch air, nitrox, trimix, 02 for rebreathers in a separate compressor room in the city.

I have a double filtered compressor that is 02 clean at home in Wakefield for mixing my own gas, probably not going to use it much, if at all now I live at the coast, so I will probably sell it on.

I make that 108bar of 40% to give 230 final pressure.
So a 50L J into 12L tanks you get about 5 fills before the tanks have equalised and you can't have 30% again.

Pure oxygen needs 25bar so you get about 30 fills.
Nigel, I'm trying to move one step at a time with our branch - don't want to scare people with radical ideas. Once they like the sound of this, the maths can be pointed out.

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing!.

Put your project forward on a strong footing from the outset, it saves on red faces later.

You will reap the benefits, and have more chance of getting a result.

But there again BSAC committees and lack luster branch members! Good luck.

Well you do have to repeat yourself to get through to some committees.

no....and no plans to.... they seem to spend all our money trying to keep a couple of knackered old boats in service that only get used a 2/3 times a year.

I'd be very surprised if this can be done within the university mate, as they don't like housing the cylinders inside as it is. Also *home* nitrox tends to be more expensive than buying it at a shop, either way you would have to put pure o2 into a tank (unless i read your post wrong and are getting pre mix 40%) and you would need a few J's to run the pressure to make it worthwhile, and then have them chained to the wall, and get a one way valve for the whips on the compressor. But then its £300 for a half decent whip (or £100 for an AP one which would do the job) plus the plumbing for the J's (if we got multiple). Your looking at about £500 (inc o2 analyser) to set this up, and then the cylinder standing charges. But if your serious push for a booster aswell.

IMHO for the amount of trainees we do, I doubt Warwick Sport would go for this, but if you get their backing then its a good step forward.

I used to blend in my kitchen ;') I don't think anyone in branch would resist the changes mate.
