A number of divers in my club dive the "shuttle way" as it seems to be called. They dive week in and week out out of Dover with no issues. At the end of the day it's horses for courses whatever works for you has to be best

A fair point Gary. Choice is important and everyone should have it, but when someone suggests an unconventional and potentially troublesome config, shouldn't we give them good advice? If they choose to ignore it that's up to them?

Mal

Is having your deco cylinder behind you and inverted unconventional Mal?

especially when the BSAC course shows it as a possible kit conifiguration

frankly yes. It's quite unusual to see it. Side slung either to one side or both sides appears to be far and away the most common setup. I have seen the setup you descrive a few times, but its a few times compared to the hundreds of divers Ive seen side sling their deco bottles. It just gives more options in terms of handing the bottles around if needs be, having your buddy check what gas you are switching to, being able to stow it away on the boat easily, deciding not to take it etc.

I'm iantd/tdi trained, and yes, the bsac way does seem unconventional to me personally, but as daffy says, it's horses for courses.

i reckon that if i lost my mask or it was massively flooded i could find my deco stage valve and reg easier with it rigged the floridian cave divers way [which is what all iantd/tdi stems from originally]

I never said it was wrong. I said it was unconventional. then I pointed out the reasons I believe this to be the case. It's up to individuals to decide if something is wrong for them or not.

I'm all in favour of "if it works for you"
