| thanks, Janos, That has really helped i forgot about the steel vs ali, so i may just be looking for a sensible sized steel. Quote:
I think i would be royally pissed off if my drop bottle went down to another diver, and a few minutes later it transpired i needed it myself. I would (obviously) have no problem in anyone breathing any of my O2, provided I am safely back on the boat, and in a position to decide i don't need it myself. I'm sorry if that sounds selfish, but if I can go to the effort of sorting this out, and looking after myself, not relying on another diver shouldn't others?

The other thing is we religiously all come back to the shotline and deco is all done on a trapeze. So if anyone has a problem 99% of time another diver is around with gas to assist. Therefore the drop bottle is for the realy poor sod who has had a major problem and missed the shot. Only my humble opinion, i cannot wait for the flack to fly!!!!!!!!!

Wow! That and Scubee's post has really quite gob-smacked me.... and I'm really not sure how to answer as it is not anything I have ever considered from that perspective. I guess I have never looked at it as "mine" - as where we have used them I have tended to dive with a group of mates who I have dived with for a number of years and it is just a standard bit of kit for our deep dives and not "anyones" per se. If someone needs it; it is deployed. Then deal with the next isue that comes along. Having said that I think i would be a bit narked off, if I had one on a YD trip which I had rigged and someone needed it whilst I was under but it wasn't deployed because folk were waiting for me to get back on the boat to give the okay to use it.... It is very unlikely that that 2 would be needed at once, although I just hope that someone would have the gumption to jury rig one for me (or anyone else) there and then; they aren't difficult to put together in a flash. Snash.

| I have a spare 12L steel (out of test) which is going to be going on Ebay if anyone wants it for a drop tank? I'm using my other one for that purpose. Offers?

| Don't get me wrong i'd happily give to anyone in a flash but i'd be most upset if it was used and i had a problem and couldn't use my own drop bottle the chances of this are slim i know but i dive a lot on boats where i know possibly 1 other person and i've seen some true numpties in no way prepared borrowing everything they can to get in the water (we all forget something i know but i've seen people close to having to borrow everything ) if someone like that took a drop bottle i had thought to bring with me and organise then i had a problem and ended up bent or worse i would not be happy with it. Case in point on one dive i had to lend out drysuit hose, gloves, hood dive computer (battery dead on his hadn't checked it the night before), mask strap, fin strap and a spare second stage because his was just purging all to the same diver on one dive. I'm now have a good idea whom i'm diving with and i'm more fussy about what trips i book on so it probably wouldn't be an issue again although it has made me slightly weary.those who know me hopefully know that i wouldn't begrudge anyone anything but i can't stand lack of prep it takes maybe an hour and your life depends on it

| I think it makes a huge difference if I am diving with a group of people I know. You are right - it is going to be a really bad day when two pairs need it. However, put the boot on the other foot. if I needed a drop bottle, and someone elses appeared, how am i going to feel if I get back on the boat to find that the peron who went to the trouble of sorting out a bottle needed it, and i was using it. Simply because my shit hit the fan before his/her. I would feel crap. I have absolutely no doubt that if someone needs it, they can have it. To be sure, though, shouldn't they be taking their own get out of jail free card, instead of thinking ... well someone else will have a bottle, if i need one, i will use theirs. If you are decoing on a station, trapeze or whatever, then it is a different call completely. i am talking about SMB ascents. Anyway... this wasn't about that... how am i going to rig it all up so that it doesn't go crashing to the bottom of the sea!!

| Rig it as a stage then tie the rope through the ring on the top boltsnap and tie the other end to either a buoy or do what cheapo Chasey'd one. When the skipper wants to send it down he can clip the boltsnap to the line. l have 80% on 9 mtrs of line in a steel 10 ltr connected to a buoy given to me by a friendly skipper.
