To be fair, skippers are fairly used to picking up DSMBs when the reel has jammed and the diver has let go of the reel. Surely it's something similar.

And if you have sent your yellow blob up, i would have thought you would be expecting somethign, so would have the reel prepared so that you weren't dragged up.

well the ones i've spoken to have pretty much said that they'd only drop the bottle in, and not try and clip it etc.

I'd like to see a skipper try it (not for real obviously), just to see how long and how much faff there is involved. I still think it's easier to just chuck a tank over the side with a buoy attachedas close tothe SMB as possible....

I plan on taking a drop bottle with me, which i will explain when to deploy it etc to the skipper.

What is the best way to rig it? I think it will be a 7l ali, and probably on about 6m of rope. I need it to be a non-permanent rig (so that if I need to, I can use a 10l or 12l).

My question, basically, is how do you rig yours? (pics might be helpful ) And what do you have in it?
based on the deco profiles we compared you can wait at 6 metres whilst i finish my deco, get back on the boat, have a cup of tea, maybe a quick kip, then strap on the backup tank and come down and join you for the rest of your deco

And in ten years time we'll see whether you did enough or not

I have done it twice in practice and once in anger and its worked no problem so far.

Just chucking in the tank is daft because it coud be 3m away and you cant see it. They must clip it on the line or use a loop over the smb

Maybe. I am undecided. In poor viz you might not see it, but when I used a drop bottle for real it was fine and I could see it. I worry with sliding down the line that it might get stuck. I think the best thing to do is to tell the skipper to try and get the buoys tangled up.

Janos

PS - If anyone wants a sofnalime tub, I have one in the shed, I'll have a second in a mo, and please take them off my hands as they're a pain to recycle.

I take a drop tank whan I am planning more than an hours deco OC. On CCR I take it when I have over 90mins deco. There are gas management bailout options that dictate this.
