| way too complex im afraid how many of you have actually tried this in anger i am guessing very few..... next time you are in the boat with a gentle swell try and get it done in a swift time, i bet you will be suprised at the difficulty encountered getting the boat in position manouvered thrown in deployed without tangle and tghen keeping the boat safe and maintaining safety for the others in the water, if you are diving with drop bottles you need a deck bitch/crew

| ive done it practised it and used in anger, i wont be calling smudge as its not me that needs the help people just seem to be over complicating something that is essentially already fine in its simplest form, remmeber the old principle KISS, in times of stress back to basics, some of them things were making me spin without the task loading of an out of gas or bailed out diver as well and if yuo are doing a dive that requires it its all well and good haveing a wicked drop bottle setup if the skipper is having a hard job positioning in wind and tide and cannot get the bottle to the diver, or even close, might as well have nothing! i think people forget that in anything less than ideal conditions with a hint or breeze or swell it will make the procedure lots harder...

| Something that was suggested to me was to attach a hula hoop to one end of the line so that rather than having to clip onto the line the skipper just has to throw the hula hoop over the smb. Thoughts on the back of a fag packet. Danny |

| the hula hoop is a nice idea but you still have to get close enough to put it on, and would you want a boat being manouvered while you are down with string going up i wouldnt!

| yesknow what you mean but having the skipper trying to position and throw gas in anything but a tiny swell will be a night mare and probably not get the gas any way, and if you had planned correctly and relevant bailout and gasses, there wouldnt be a need to have a blind panic on the surface in the first place or even have to fire the yellow bag

I can see that in a really heavy swell it would be hard to deploy (anything) I guess that type of conditions call for a surface support diver kitted up for being in the water. Chris

The hoop idea was on here around 3 years ago. Complete with feedback on its use. IIRC you need to include holes in the hoop/ hose and weights to get it to sink quickly. IIRC collection and redeployment in the event of a miss was a rite bu88er. But nothing is perfect .....unless you just do it right first time, and avoid the need for a drop bottle. -Cheers, Paul |
