If you had to take along a support boat to stay with the divers when the main boat has gone off site dealing witht the casualty, what sort of boat would be suitable? would a little zodiac be considered suitable to cover the othe divers?

No idea, i was thinking along the lines of your typical UK dive boat (eg Offshore 125), so space for another boat would be next to zero.......

the exact senario happend on a trip last year,

We were out 30 or so miles but well outside the lanes, one diver had a boyant accent from 50 meters, he missed half an hour of stops.

When I came to the surface there was no dive boat to bee seen, our boat had thrown in a weighted buff and marked the position on GPS, he then motored off with the casualty to meet the helecopter and came back to the GPS position and being a clever guy followed the way we drifted in the half an hour or so I was on the surface. the buff marked our rough position and we were all picked up safetly.

After this though I did go out and get a 6 foot SMB.

The chap was ok too after his trip to the pot.
