F***ing hell!!! No-one has mentioned rebreather planning yet! Is everyone OK?

With one deco gas then I always limited my bottom time to what I could deco on with backgas. If I couldn't do a reasonable bottom time then I'd take an extra deco bottle. Stage bottles are easy to find, reliable buddies aren't.

Absolutely. It's a good starting point when thinking about a plan but once you're in detail then it is usually useless. Even in cave diving I find it a bit liberal.

Son, you're going to have to make up your mind about growing up and becoming aircrew. You can't do both.

The aircraft limits are only there in case there is another flight by that particular aircraft. If subsequent flights do not appear likely, there are no limits.

Bollox... it's a lot better than sticking your finger in the air.

Maybe in cave diving as there's a lot that can go wrong to impede your exit, but in open water you can plan an ascent and gas supply quite easily.

You should know better...

I do, but then again I only do weenie single stage nitrox dives with limited exposures. I personally plan bottom time based on a combination of minimum gas and backgas deco requirements.

WHat I mean is I used 1/3's as a starting point for giving me an idea of how much bottom time I should be looking at then working the plan out from there.

I don't like 1/3's for caving, too conservative for stages, too liberal for backgas.
