| Technical Diving in Depth by Bruce Wienke....... ....should be avoided at all costs unless you have 3 or 4 PhDs under you belt. If anyone does have 3 or 4 PhDs under their belt and doesn't already have a copy of this venerated work, I have one I'd be happy to part with. |

| Mixed Gas Diving by Mount & Gilliam is old (1993 I think) but still a very good introduction to technical diving, as is Gilliam's Deep Diving. I've still not seen any modern books as good as either of these. The NSS-CDS Cave Diving Manual is an extremely good guide to rigging kit, using twinsets, reels, etc. Pitched at cave diving but is applicable to open water as well. Again, it's old, mine is a 1992 copy, but still current -- interestingly, 16yrs ago it was just accepted that you would use a single piece harness, non-bungeed wing, breathe the long hose, etc. It's written by some very experienced people (the kit pages are written by the people who founded Dive Rite). The Cavern Manual is a cut down version of the same book, really cheap but very good, nice and basic with simple illustrations. GUE's Fundamentals book is very good as well. Their Technical Diving book (I think) is extremely dull. And at the risk of having the piss ripped out of me, PADI's Encyclopaedia of Diving (or whatever it got renamed as) is a great foundation for the theory. Lippman's Deeper into Diving is a great reference book but I don't think I'd like to try and troll through it cover to cover. Life is too short. Quote:

| Thanks everyone. I'll have a dig through Turbs' massive selection of diving books as well. I'm pretty sure he's got 'Deeper Into Diving' and several cave diving books from when he did his course.
