A rather brilliant place to dive
Abso-feckin-lutely. Saturday night was spent getting about as boozy as I've been in a long time and practicing being a cad and a bounder. Not a dry seat in the house, there wasn't a group of giggly 21 year olds that I hadn't entertained with my charming wit and chiseled looks, and then leaving them dangling and taking Adrian home for the night
What a brilliant weekend though. Several people said it was like an old school reunion, I saw just about every major name that's anything to do with tech diving in one weekend, old friends, new friends, speakers from all over the world that you just can't see anywhere else (and certainly not so up close and personal) and manufacturers and divers who would happily talk to anyone for half an hour on the stand.
I wondered whether the weekend would be worth the £85 entrance fee (obviously I got a cheap ticket from Garf not being able to make this) and I had originally planned to do one day and not the dinner. So glad I did it all, and I'd happily have paid full price and considered it very good value for money.
Top class heckling at the dinner as well. A very good humoured evening. I actually laughed to myself a bit on the way home from Birmingham remembering the moment when Richie won the Fundies course
Digs.
I'd like to add my thanks as well for a phenomenal weekend.
Leigh, Carl and Roz organised a great event that everyone I spoke to agreed was the best show/conference of the year.
Rick Stanton and Phil Shorts tales of surviving some serious sphincter tightening caving moments were both inspiring and terrifying in generous measure.
After attending all of Dr Simon Mitchells lectures I feel like I've had a crash update in latest decompression theory. A huge thanks to Simon for clearing up a lot of the bull**it over DCS prevention, PFO's, Inner Ear DCS and counter diffusion while keeping us in stitches with his Aussies vs Kiwi's and inter service rivalry gags.
A special mention must be made over his excellent presentation on respiritory physiology at extreme depths and Dave Shaw's last dive. This was a contorversial topic to present on and he pulled it off covering a great scope of information with a diplomatic and honest approach.
It was great to catch up with the tool makers and see what's new and improved in our world. My shopping list has now grown to include a DPV, a Sentinel, MiFLex hoses aswell as a whole bunch of black and shiny toys from Narked at 90.
The Gala dinner was a riot. With all the potential of being a stuffy self-indulgent BS-fest, Leigh et al did a wonderful job of simultaneously praising and roasting the guests, with some great movies put together for the evening. The coolest prizes were given away to raise money for charity with hysterical outcomes when one of the special guests won an encylopedia that had been personally signed by himself, and when a well known and respected instructor trainer won an entry level tech course from another agency.
The sunday morning saw rumours emerging of post gala shenannigans that had a lot of the delegates out until the early hours of the morning. These rumours were seemingly confirmed by the conspicuously large number of absentees from the early hours of the show that day.
All in all the best dive event weekend I've ever been too. I look forward with great enthusiasm to 2010's planned event.
Thanks again to the organisers!
What a weekend!

First of all i would like to say a VERY VERY BIG THANK YOU to the following YD members for helping me to load up my van from a very very successful show GARY (WARM WATER DIVER) & not for getting DIGGER.
I would also like to say a BIG thanks to Carl, Lee & Roz and the rest of the team that worked behind the scenes for all there hard work in organising a fantastic event, i was unfortunate to not able to attend any of the seminars due to excibiting, though i heard it went down very well.
The Gala dinner was again well organised as there was about 200 plus people to get seated on time away from the BAR.
The venue was brilliant the only problem was that we excibters had to be at the venue at 5.30am yawn yawn.
Roll on 2010
