Gutted I missed it but glad you all had a great time. Can anyone give me the gist of the inner ear DCI talk please?
Safe diving,
Steve

Buy Mark Powell's book, some of it is there, from the quick scan of the book I made today.
It would take a fair bit of text, but there are 2 areas. Air dives and Trimix dives with gas switches.
Gas switches may well be taking place at the point in the dive where a chamber in the inner ear is super saturated (bad deco) and the Isobaric Counter Diffusion of the gas switch is a straw breaking the camels back DCI wise.
Normal air dives seemed to be about the venous air bubbles passing through a PFO and some going to the inner ear. Some also go to the brain, but because there is little additional nitrogen there to increase bubble size, it is not a problem. However if the ear is again super saturated, then there is much more nitrogen to bond with the bubbles and they get too big.
A crude gist of my understanding Steve.

A great weekend, and I thoroughly enjoyed the gala dinner. Sorry I wasnt on the YD table, but I had a slot at the VR Tech table which I wasnt going to pass on. It was great for me to catch up with some of the manufacturers I used to work with. I made it to bed at about 3am, and some of the exhibitors were still going strong.
Some really inspiring presentations, now I just have to sign up for Truk. Thankfully I do have a rebreather (unlike GLOC)
Wow what a great week end, best dive talks I have been to yet.
Dr Simon Mitchell seemed to be everyones favourite, I also enjoyed the show about HMS Victoria, the video was outstanding. Pete Mesley was keen tempting us with Truk again with a great presentation from T.T. !! The exhibitors had some new gear to show us. The Gala dinner was very well put together, with great prizes a load of money raised. Thanks Leigh, Carl and Roz you did a great job, we certainly will be back for the next!

We would like to thank everyone for the fantastic feedback we have had in response to the EuroTek.2008 Tek diving show in Birmingham from both delegates & exhibitors alike.
Many of you are sending emails of praise which we cannot thank you enough for. We would especially like to thank our speakers who all made an outstanding contribution. We would also like to thank those delegates that travelled from all over the world, from your emails we know that it was worth the long flights.
The last few months leading up to EuroTek has been very hard work, with long hours often going well into the night. This was our first show and we can only express our sincere gratitude to all those that supported the event and the exhibitors that gave a bunch of first timers the faith they needed.
All three of us have now gone back to our normal day jobs and will try and catch up with normal day to day things that have been put on the back bench over the last 6 months.
We value your kind comments and support and we would love to hear your feedback be it positive or negative or even if you can suggest how we could improve Eurotek IF we decide to run again in 2010. (Perhaps your feed back may persuade us to put all the hard work in again?)We now have a feedback page on the website Eurotek dive show feedback and will make up a page of comments from various mails.
We have lots of photos which we will post on the website Eurotek advanced diving conference as soon as we can, which is going to be very interesting seeing various well known Tek divers dressed in tuxedos for the special awards evening Gala Dinner, which those that were there will know was one to remember. Any one else who has photos they wish to share please contact us.
Now we have Oztek to look forward to but until the next EuroTek dive safe.
Kind regards

For those who haven't heard but were at Eurotek the legal case reason for Martin Parker's absence has been resolved.
Not going into details but in Martin's words:
"After two weeks of trial, the jury today returned their unanimous verdict – the Inspiration rebreather was NOT at fault and Ambient was NOT liable........"
good outcome in a sad case.

For the curious, but as Ash say's, a sad case.
Copied from the inspiration list
The Barrett v Ambient trial was concluded today, November 18th 2008, in Concord, New Hampshire.
Mr Barrett died on August 3rd 2002 while diving at Bainbridge Sportsman Club in Pennsylvania. The cause of death was listed as accidental drowning, but the cause of drowning was undetermined.
The claim was one of product liability. The plaintiff claimed that the Inspiration rebreather was "unreasonably dangerous" because it was prone to power interruptions from "battery bounce" and brownout of the electronic controllers (which the plaintiff claimed occurred without warning), despite there being no evidence whatsoever of any of these events. Additionally, Mr Barrett made several unapproved modifications to his Inspiration rebreather, including adding environmental seals to the first stages of his Apeks regulators and possibly overusing an unapproved scrubber material. He was diving solo at the time of his death.
The plaintiff's claims were supported by the "expert" testimony of: Dr Alex Deas (who admitted that he suffered at least three floods on his Inspiration rebreather and tried to clean the electronics by running them through the dishwasher), Adm. Donald Arthur, MD (former Surgeon General USN), Stan Smith, PhD (economist), plus others (not present at Court). Annemarie McAteer was listed as a trial witness for the plaintiff within hours of being banned from the Inspiration List, although she was not called to testify at trial.
Ambient's experts included: Dr David Sawatzky, Mr David Pence and Dr Bill Hamilton (not present at Court).
After two weeks of trial, the jury today returned their unanimous verdict – the Inspiration rebreather was NOT at fault and Ambient was NOT liable for the death of Mr. Barrett. Under U.S. law, Ambient will automatically recover it’s costs of suit. Ambient intends to bring additional legal action against the plaintiff’s attorneys to recover the lawyers’ fees it incurred to defend the suit. In order to discourage frivolous litigation.
