Thumbs up Cochran COMMANDER EMC-20H

Hi Guys do any of you use Cochran computers and do they offer deep stops to back up tables.

The sort of thing i want is not a vr3 but something that says stop at 25m for 2 minutes then 3 at 12 for argument sake.

Yeah, I use an old cochrane commander.

Its not exactly conservative and certainly doesnt do deep stops.

This is actually a good thing for me, since I plug my own in and then dont get penalised with wodges of shallow stops to clear.

The cochrane is purely a clever backup for my tables/brain though.

Its a perfectly good computer, but if you're using it for deco, its wise to boost the conservatism yourself (I do this by stopped 3m deeper than it tells me). Its also very customisable.

I have the Commander Nitrox. Mine does not allocate deep stops. On deco dives I do the "deep" stops based on my manually cut backup tables and then finish off the shallow stops as per my computer. I don't know if the newer Cochrans do this.

The people at Cochran are very helpful and I would suggest you email them direct with any queries - you will receive an answer within 2 days.

Their web site is http://www.divecochran.com/main.html and they have a "contact us" section for emails.

I REALLY like my computer. There are e few thing I would like to change but all in all it is an excellent bit of kit and was at an excellent price for a "two mix computer" (don't know how prices compare these days).

I also have the Commander Nitrox, and for shallow dives I just pad out the conservatism with extra stops, ( i.e use it as minimum time to leave water). For longer dives over 40m I cut tables using deco software & run a combination of deep stops as per tables & padded deco from computer.

It's fiddly to set up between dives, if you're switching gases etc, but I do like it, and have never had any problems with it. Would I buy another, probably not as the algorithm (unless changed on more recent models) is dated with regard to current thinking, RGBM, GF's, Pyle, WKPP etc. But then again I'd like a VR3 integrated to the KISS unit I haven't got (yet).
