I got one when they first came out, still use it for holidays as its easier to lug around on flights than the Halcyon. I made up a bracket to fit it to my Video and with the defuser fitted it give reasonable results. Very bright compared to std lamps and has a good burn time.
As always a rechargeable version is preferable ( because I'm hate buying batteries) and as with all HID - take great care with them! If you are unfortunate enough to bust a bulb - your in for a shock - with the replacement cost. If you flood the thing and have to buy a new battery / bulb and ballast - then your in to nearly the cost of a new torch.

So basically yes a good torch but you need to look after it or you might just regret buying it

regards

Unhappy Light Cannon

A friend of mine has a UK Light Cannon, after a year of use the clear bezel/ front lens started to crack where it sits on the O ring. Luckily spotted before a dive!!

This could have caused by a combination of heat and stress. In any case the part was returned to Sea and Sea who promptly replaced it.

Regards

Northern Monkey

I've got one and the only downside is that it isn't umbilical. Otherwise its an excellent torch.

Quite common torches among the folk I know including the missus. Very good, especially for the price, and very compact.
Any torch can be flooded so you just need to take more care unless you want a big bill for repair

Hi Neil, you might want to check out this link:

http://www.leisurepro.com/Catalog.as...t= 965&page=5

They have the Light cannon for $160 (around 87 GBP) and the Tribal pack for $200 (around 109 GBP). Even after you pay for shipping and import duty you will be well ahead of the 164.50 a popular northern dive shop is charging for the light cannon. A few others on YD have purchased Light cannons from these guys and reckoned they came out well in front. Haven’t done it myself I’m still toying with the idea of a canister torch.

Dave.

I've got mine and love it! Amazing on a night dive in the Red Sea and a very white light. I've got the rechargeable version but used batteries when I went overseas.

Thumbs up

My wife has one and I am after one for next year.
Bought especially for a Clyde trip, its an excellent torch very bright.

Upside - cheap
Downside (for some) - not umbilical

Caution on buying from leisurepro,

The US prices don't include local sales tax, shipping, import duty or VAT.

You may not get charged the last two, but you can't count on it.

you could end up paying
$160 for the torch
20% local tax $32
Shipping $50
some import duty (don't know the numbers for this)
17.5% VAT (on $192) $33.6

giving a total of $275 or £185 not including import duty.

On the other hand you may not get charged local tax, VAT or Import duty.

Check with the supplier before you commit, they may not charge local tax and may tag it as second hand so you dodge the import duty and VAT. I tried to by from Leisurepro a few years ago and found them to be unhelpful and unresponsive. If you are going to buy from the US there are better places.

Conor
