U/W Kinetics D4R
Sorry to all if this has been answered before, but I couldn't find anything...

Can a D4R be run off of conventional rechargeables (pref NiMH)?

I am thinking of one as a fairly compact primary light, like the brightness of the unit, but not too keen on the "custom" NiCd battery.

Hi there,

I've got the destruction sheet and it says the D4 needs 4 off Alkaline D cells and the rechargable needs 4 off nicad D cells, I can't see anything that says you can or can't use NiMh batteries.

As far as I can see the two torch bodies are the same but you do need to use a seperate battery cassette if you are to use loose cells.

So I would have to track down one of said cassettes then. Any ideas how hard they are to come by?

Shouldn't be too hard, the spare parts are all on the website www.uwkinetics.com for part numbers or you could try divers warehouse, I have a feeling that they are stockists.

you need to look and compare cells.
i remember most D cell rechargables are 1.2 v each and a certain amp/hour you need add 4 up and compare this to the uk rechargable battery pack.
we tried using the smaller rechargables in the mini Q40 torches but they didn't last long or were as bright.
alkaline D cells are 1.5v x 4 == 6v but don't know current rating ,something to think about.

Cheers Noel, I found the section on the Sea and Sea website after I posted - It's about £3 for the battery cradle.

Elfyn - the UK site give the torch as requiring 4x4.4Ah cells, it is possible to get 8Ah cells from some suppliers - so I hope capacity shoudn't be a problem.
