Finally killed the Pro 3

You know what? After months of expecting the Pro 3 to break and it being fine, I think I finally now have a problem with it.

I turn it on (batteries fully charged by the way, so no problems there) and it comes on, goes off, comes on, goes off. When I shake it gently (very gently because I'm a bit anal about the bulb) it flickers on and off.

There's also a dull rattle coming from inside.

Any ideas? Spoke to UE at Portland where I bought it from, well their stand at the show, and they asked me to call back Monday when someone who knew more about it could discuss.

Anyone know what could have caused it? I've not done anything particularly nasty to it (other than 8 months of diving), so why would it break now? There wa a bit of condensation on th inside of the glass a hile back which didn't worry me unduly as it went away, but maybe a possible that's corroded a joint somewhere?

I asked them and they won't let me open it up to have a look, because it will invalidate the warranty. I can see why, but anyone fixed a similar problem? If it's a 10 minute job then I'm game, and I'm not too worried about the warranty, but if I'm going to knacker it then it's going to have to go back.

The other thing is now UE have the chance to be my favourite dive centre ever (just about Go-Dive) if they can get it back to me fixed or replaced before the weekend, but the way they were talking today sounds like it could be weeks. We'll see. If I get it off Monday they have 48 hours to get it back. Hmm... Joy.

Digs.

Well, I must say so far UE are doing a hell of a good job of keeping me happy. They called to say it had arrived and they had opened it up. It was a problem in the wire (probably caused by a cable tie on the cord) so they've shortened the cable slightly and sorted it.

Now, they've promised me the courier will have it here tomorrow. Knowing courier services that means Friday, but they will have it back faster than a prom queen in the back of a limo. I'm impressed.

Credit must go to Phil at Diving Niknaks, who PMed me and gave me some useful advice after being called at late o'clock when I finally got back to my computer, and also offered to help me out this weekend if UE let me down. Now that sort of customer service I can get into in a big way.
