New torch needed
Hi all
Only got 300 squid. Can't believe I just said only.

Looked at Protius 3. Heard good and bad things by the same people. Iv'e heard of people getting them for £300. Where from?

Looked at Saltek. Not heard anything bad, where do you get them? and how much are they?

Looked at Salvo. Heard good things but they don't do a budget HID with a lead battery. Starting at £465 thats a bit much.

Looked at the FA-Mi LED. Looks god but not heard anyone say it really is

I want somthing I can order in the UK for £300 ish Please.

Protius 3 nice torch, I have one and have been very happy with it.

Tested a Fa&Mi umbilical against my Power 4 led and the difference was quite striking even in the shop, much larger and brighter spread of beam. Until that point I had been quite happy with my little Power 4

However, I like you, would like to see or hear a direct comaprison against something bigger, such as the Salvo 21w9ah!

The £300 for a Proteus 3 was from the dive show when several people were buying them at the same time. They are £340 usually (for the non-focusable head), so at the top end of your budget. I have a proteus 3 and I'm very happy with it so far - it has a really nice bright white light and as its mounted on my harness I don't feel the extra weight of a lead acid battery rather than a NiMH

Actually, the proteus 3 has gone up considerably from that. The unfocusable is now £380 and the focusable one is now £440.00

Scrape together the extra cash and get the Protious. Its a stunning bit of kit for the cash.

Andyp and I baught one each at the LDS for £300 in 2004. Best £300 I ever spent.

Strange - usually stuff goes down in price over time rather than up. Probably exchange rate / oil price stuff

Exactly it mate. Oil goes up cost of plastics go up. Delrin aint cheap to start with, but it is shiny !

Thats why we took a decision when Salvo's went up by £50 in the US at the beginning of May to only put them up by £15 here in the UK

The rate shifting at the moment isn't too bad, but you never know what's around the corner.
