CD Umbilical, Alternative DIY batteries? I've just bought a second hand Custom Divers umbilical halogen light. It comes as standard with lead acid cells aprox 'D' size. From what I have been able to glean, these are probably about 2.5 Amp hour jobies, six wired in series for twelve volts. My idea is to make up two banks of ten 'AA' NimH cells, wire them in parallel and stuff them in the case giving aprox twice the capacity of the lead acids (2500 MaH is pretty common for NimH these days). Obviously I will need to sort a suitable charger, but that is no real problem, but other than that can anyone see potential pitfalls that I might be missing? |
