my dad baulked at how much it cost to get trained i thought it was reasonable.

He 'chipped 'his car to get an extra 20 BHP it cost 350 I baulked but to him that was reasonable.

You may Baulk at an electrician charging £50 to put 2 light fittings up to me thats reasonable.

See the common pattern.

Personally I wouldnt pay that much for a torch -Yet-(but don't tell SWMBO when I do decide to get one), but without knowing what the original poster classes as reasonable its hard to decide what is reasonable , I think that either of the 2 makes I quoted fit the brief quite well maybe not perfectly but life aint perfect is it.

Reasonable is a terrible word, entirely subjective.

Halcyon 18 W approx £980, Salvo 21W £655, look "reasonable" now ?

ATX50 £85, ATX200 £280, which is reasonable , they both do the same job.

Cheap is a word I don't like, Value for money sounds so much better

If you want a mind blowing torch then the Salvo 21W represents just that and is good value for money. However if you only want an amazing torch then I strongly recommend the Fixed beam 10W Halcyon Lead acid HID Protius (I think) I have both coz I am greedy

Is the 21W better? Yes much but its also £250 more

The 10 W Halcyon will not disappoint you and it’s only limited by the two hour battery life and the charge time on the battery. Replacement bulbs are cheaper by about £30 and the replacement batteries are cheaper by about £150.

So it’s simple, if you’re on a budget get the Halcyon. However if you can afford £600 the 21W 9ah Salvo has no competition.

Bang for buck 21w 9Amp Salvo wins hands down!

.............If however you want a tight beam, blue light and are anus about colour temperatures you want a Halcyon mate

Salvo = more of an orange colour, less focused spot, cheaper, more reliable bulb

Halcyon = Blue light, tight beam (EKPP or New Halcyon) tight spot, expensive, shit charger, fragile bulb!

I however love my 18W H9, albeit Salvos weren't about at the time!

happy hunting!

I was once at a sales meeting for the launch of a new 'cheaper' version of the product we already sold. We had to do role play extoling the features, advantages and benefits of the cheaper product. Everyone was doing well or so we thought until one bright spark stood up and said

"I would like to introduce you to product B, it's our new and less expensive version of . . . . .

Did he go to the top pf the class or what??!!

Yes, l have the 50 watt halogen umbilical, when the head stopped working my LDS sent it back to Italy so because l was going to the red sea and needed a torch l bought the 12watt HID head at £320.

After two replacement bulbs @ £90 each, the HID head stopped working so the whole lots gone back to Italy, about three months ago, l'm still waiting.

So now l have a 21 watt Salvo.

However, a guy that l buddied with recently had a 35-50 watt HID Metalsub torch that he paid about £100 more than l paid for the Salvo, made the Salvo look tame.
