Er, yeah - that's about the size of it to be honest.

She thinks nothing of spending a hundred quid on a poxy face cream, but she would literally kill me if she found out that I had bought one of these puppies.

Best she doesn't find out methinks...

Join the gang of us dreading the day the bank statement comes through the door. Everytime the swmbo calls my name I'm looking for a tail to tuck between my legs, I think one should be supplied with the Salvos as standard.

Tell your missus it is also one of those tanning lamps that were popular in the 70's that women used to sit in front of to get face cancer.

Nice idea Woz - trouble is she actually already has one of those - It gives off a really eerie light so half the street think I'm growing my own weed. Took ages to work out why the local oiks were being so friendly.

I wonder if Phil from NikNaks appreciates just how many relationships are threatened by the wares he peddles

ANdyp uses the 10W halcyon I use the 21W Salvo so were often side by side testing. The 10w is perfictly adiquate for prety much any dive. The 21W is bigger and better but how much of a good thing do you need?

I would say the 21W is better at lighting up a big area once inside something but frankley I wnet for the 21 as it was about the same cost as upgrading my 10W Halcyon to the longer burn time batery pac so it made sense.

Mony no object id get the 21. However whilst i havent tested the torch I do like the look of the wrist unit for the 18W so that well worth considering. I cant tell any diferance between Peets 18W Halcyon and my 21W Salvo.

Which ever Salvo you get you will be over the moon with the service.

Cool First Impressions of 21W Salvo

I have now done four dives with the 21W Salvo - 2 at the NDC with James Blake and 2 at Gildenburgh with Stewbie.

The NDC had pants vis down to about 25m and good vis below that. The Salvo did a good job of cutting through the silt with hardly any back scatter and then pierced through the dark water like a search light when we were at depth.

Gildenburgh didn't have any vis - real pea soup stuff throughout much of the day (which could help to explain why we were literally the only divers there *all day*). The Salvo again gave a decent account of itself - I could see the column of light emitting from the end of the head even though at times I couldn't see the torch or my hand holding it.

Overall this is a top piece of kit which throughly deserves its brilliant reputation. The service from Phill at Divingniknaks was also entirely consistent with the glowing reports I have read posted on this forum - next day delivery (undetected by SWMBO) in the middle of a fuel crisis. Good work fella

My bugger at the moment is the massive price drop on the Halcyon 10w torches. At the moment I don't need more than 2hr burntime and the light output is awesome (seen Martin's) enough for what I'm doing.

Is the Salvo 21 a better torch? YES, no doubt

Is it worth spending the extra £300 as a soon to be student?

......that's where I'm stuck. Thats nearly the cost of a wing and Mk25 for twins which I'm looking towards around Xmas. I'd love the Salvo but financially I'm getting less able to choose with all the impending fees and such

Glad you are having fun with your new toy Rob. And pleased, again, that Phil managed to deliver. What are you doing with your old torch

Son, you're going to have to make up your mind about growing up and becoming aircrew. You can't do both.

The aircraft limits are only there in case there is another flight by that particular aircraft. If subsequent flights do not appear likely, there are no limits.

Old torch - probably eBay, if I ever get round to it. Failing that I'll add it to my mountain of "spare kit" in the garage!

Posting whilst pissed eh? Good man.

Bear in mind Pete that torch which is on "offer" is NOT a NIMH battery. Also it has the notoriously fragile Welch Allen bulbs, so think about the ongoing cost of replacing bulbs at Gawd knows how much a time.

That may help you justify your decision a little differently, the 10W Salvo is a perfectly good light, in fact in some cases it can be a better light as has been pointed out earlier in the thread.

Don't know if that helps ?

Cheers

Btw, you still have a little time left for 9A 10W which is on Ebay at the moment.
