Fa-Mi 35W HID vs 24w Salvo vs 18w Salvo

http://www.fa-mi.com/ecommerce2/prodotti2_1/
http://www.divingniknaks.com/24hid.php

saw the former at Amphibian Sports last night (very good price) and it almost blinded me (hi James)

Any thoughts what they are like in the water? Any comparisons/comments compared to the 24w Salvo

(the link is for a 30w version, the one I saw was a 35w HID with a wide flood beam)

Have heard of the Fa-Mi's dropping to bits. I think Porg had one- PM her. Can't remember whether she liked it or not.

Have got the 21W Salvo myself and it's a thing of beauty. A torch that, if I made torches, I would make like that.

£0.02 worth

1) there's an interesting post from last week which shows the light / beam from the various salvos - looks like they all work very well

2) what are you intending using the torch for? that will determine the properties needed, in which case.....

3) thought about the greenforce range? seen the comments from other YDers about them? And.....
[HUSH MODE ON] there's a new LED out next week - ultra powerful, will be reviewed in November's DIVER [HUSH MODE OFF]

I don't have either of them so I can't comment on the performance, but I do have a Fa&Mi 50W LED and a Salvo 21W.

The Fa&Mi is okay, but has shed a few bits and just doesn't seem anything like as sturdy as the Salvo.

The Salvo is a solid bit of kit and AFAIK the only difference between the new 18/24W and the 21W I have is the fact the new bulbs are even tougher than the old ones.

Rob,
There are some other differences, the 18W Salvo HID has a 5 hour burn time. The 18W and 24W Salvos have a colour temp of 7000K (blue white light) and both have a higher lumens output (brightness). But you're right they're just as robust.

I hadn't realised that they'd started to melt / burst into flames - doesn't look like the after sales service is up to much either?
