Another option is a UK light Cannon, you can get them for in that price, including the rechargable option. I have two and really like the beam

Don't listen to this lot. What you need is a Nackers lamp. 21W HID, 2.5 hr burn, rechargeable, £230

Saw one last weekend and was v impressed. Makes a light cannon look like a candle in an upended jamjar.

Nackers

EDIT
Have just tried to find them on his site but can't. Phil- have you stopped selling them?
/EDIT

I think these are also branded as Brightstar HID torches.

It is very true that the Salvo/Brightstar is brighter than the UK light cannon as it is 21W vs the 10W of the UK.

The burn time is considerably longer on the UK, myself and Blan get about 8-10 hours + out of them on normal C type batteries.

One set of batteries did the whole week of scapa no probs. In fact I lent my charger to Matt for his C4

One other downside though is the cost of the bulbs, £70 rrp I think they are the same Welch-allen as the Halycon but I may be wrong on that one.

Thanks, I have managed to track down the copy of diver mag mentioned above I like the lool of the Nackers ones though they seem excellent value.

Do the Bulbs on HID tent to burn out faster than halogen? Are there any decent LED lamps out there?

Try not to look at the Salvo's - they cause domestic strife - or at least mine did when I bought it...

HID, when they go, are ££££, but thier life is measured in the number of times they are turned on/off, rather than the hours burned. In short, I would guess it's about the same, but more money to change. Decent LED lamps? Not yet in your price range IMHO.
