Tont J has a bright 3 LED light, I thin BBabe has the same. As you need multiple liht sources, it's harder to focus trha a single source. O have a b'stard light, it's a Halcyon 18w Hid and Salvo battery pack, as m bulb is 5 years old nor, it's hard to say whether the slight differnce between that and a Salvo 21w is due to age or those 3 watts. We got Kirstie a Halcyon 10w non-focusable HID and I'm impressed with it, there's not a great deal of difference under normal UK conditions between hers and mine. DIR divers will suggest that a team should always have a matched set of lights so that one will not get 'lost' in the brightness of the others and since it's the primary means of communication, it's important. On a UK wreck it's not as important really if your main reason for having it is to restore colour and look under crevices. LEDs, I think will 'come of age' very soon and we'll have single LEDs that are as bright as HIDs, but they are not quite there yet. r P

| ebay can be your friend. 21W Salvo Focusable HID, remote ballast so the handheld unit is smaller. Keep checking and your ship will come in...mine did. Ask Aquayle if he noticed the difference from his 10W in even a 20M speciial with ambient light...hmmmmm |

| Yes I made a bid on a 10w focusable one the other night but it went for £337 |

I don't know whether that's supposed to be a lot or not - but I presume so. Divide that by the number of dives you'll enjoy with it and it won't seem so bad. Consider also that by the time YOU buy second-hand, the thing has already done most of it's depreciating so it's still worth a significant slab of the outlay. By comparison, I did get the above mentioned 21W for £460. Some have done better than that. Am ah bovverd? do ah luk bovverd? |
