The only 2 I would be happy with would be the Heser and the new PT LED but you are looking at £110 for the former and £95 for the latter.

In shadowy areas and at ranges of a couple of meters, both are nearly as good as a 10W HID, the problem is once you get into brighter open water or further away from the surface you are trying illuminate, then the light levels drop off markedly. It is so long since I used a non-can light, I can't really compare it to anything from memory. Try dropping Phil at divingniknaks a line and ask about the new PT LED Heads or ask Woz about an LED torch he uses which comes with some good reviews.

Hi scapaman,
I'm using a beaver platinum....yes a beaver , had no problems with it & its great tobe able to change bulbs quickly, cheap bulbs too!! (not the beaver ones).
if its the burn time & size you want then have a look at this, will fit into a bcd pocket, never tried one tho but someone on here might be able to help with that.

good luck in your search

If you want to spend £149 I would defintely get a Heser, you will not be disappointed.

On a serious note

If you only want a small torch to look around in holes then some of the LED torches are great! I remember doing a night dive at Capers last year and hired a pistol grip torch from them, my princeton tec surge was much brighter!

I currently have a 18w HID fish cooker, which is nice

Frogman and princeton do some good small torches, but get the buoancy sorted and the world is your ( very well lit ) lobster!!

Based on £50 for a standard PT and a rough cost (from Phil) of £45 for the LED head. He should hopefully have them delivered this week from the US and my name is on one of them Well hopefully it is....

PS I shouldn't have had the 2 coffees with Clare at 20:30 this evening...
