I use a mini Q40 for reading guages and such like at night or in very low vis which is attached to my mask strap - very useful. It gives a good beam and plenty of burn time. As a backup in the read sea it was perfect as well.

Although I wouldn't like to use it as my main light.

Don't get the Pro range. Pressure screws up the switch at about 50m, it gets really unreliable. The batteries are also an absolute pain in the arse to change on it.

Just a general gripe about Niteriders (unless they've changed their design) is that the bulbs in the head are very difficult to change and the cable glands are very flimsy.

Head torches are good in their place but be careful of blinding anyone you are diving with. Loosing your night vision on a dive because someone with a head torch looks you in the face can be dangerous.
