Halcyon bulb morphs into salvo??!

Dear all,

Your advice is sought here - can you convert an 18w halcyon into a 21w salvo bulb unit - seeking a solution to very fragile welch-allyn bulb problem. Like the torch, want to ensure a more bullet-proof solution.

To coin a phrase of a good mate of mine; "you can only pish wae the kn*b you've got"!

Answer:- Nope....different slug, ballast and connection

I've had my H for 2yr plus and never had it break even after some rough handling.

I did however snap it whilst taking the test tube off, but that was my fault!

Apparently you can bang the salvo unit off the desk, but if your doing that to your dive kit...then well you can afford the consequences IMO

Hi,

Rick's correct, the only way would be to replace your H ballast with a Salvo ballast.

Can be done and we have for people who seem to break bulbs a lot, it can work out cheaper in the long run.

If you want to consider it further and get an idea of whats involved, feel free to give me a call. The numbers on the site

Cheers

Dear both,

Many thanks - food for thought....from what you are saying with different bulb and ballast it can be achieved. Now got to do the maths to work out how many £135 bulbs (been reading a few of these threads!) I neek to nacker in order for this to become cost effective................

Halogen Conversion

Hey

I have an old Halcyon Pro 14 I think with a 35w Halogen Head.

The Lead acid Battery is toast as is it's charger.

Would it be worth me trying to convert it to an HID and get a new battery etc., or should I just dump it.

Seems a shame to waste a perfectly good chord, lid and canister.

Cheers

I get the impression that keeping the Pro14 is a good idea. Lead acid batteries are cheap as chips compared to other types. Places like Mexico have variable electricity output making charging a bit hit and miss.

I don't know about the Halogen bit, there are others here who sound off a lot more on bulb type comparisons.

Easy to convert just buy a HID slug. Don't dump it - I'll buy it if you don't want it any more

Definately don't dump the Pro 14, new SLA batteries are as cheap as chips.

There's plenty of people out there who will buy it if you decide to sell.

As Graham says you could always get a new slug for it and convert to HID if you wish, it's also possible to build a NiMH pack for it and get a Monster burn time

Just keep your torch head wrapped in your undersuit when travelling around, seems to do well with mine.

PS: Phill, I thought of that idea should I ever need a huge burntime. Get a nice 13.5ah nimh pack and stuff it into my Pro6 canister Or I could get one custom made to fit the dimensions and end up with a replica of what JJ and Casey are using LoL

Cool when I have time I guess you are the guys to contact for compatible gear.

I'll look at getting a NiMH pack made up and converting to HID. It'll be some huge burn time on a pack that size. Kewl!

Cheers
