Fami torches - umbilical general Qs + DIY

any good? had a look through some posts and quite a number of differing views. looking at getting a 2nd hand one. halogen not LED.

sounds like the cable and the connector is quite a poor design. i havent been able to see any of them in shops as i was considering changing parts of it.

since i have my own cables (from other projects) that I know are solid which I can replace them with. but would like to look at the torch head first.

may change the battery pack as well, hack off the ends to recycle the connectors (if using original cable) replace with sewage tube/canister add extra batteries to extend burntime.

possibly purchase the external recharging cap but this limits me to the diameter of the old canister which I wanted to expand to add more batteries. dont really want to extend the battery pack to a long tube, guess its possible ala green force style.

should give me a very cheap umbilical halogen torch

Why not just buy a Salvo slug then ?

divingniknaks : 10 Watt Bulb Slug with 4' of Cable, Salvo Spares

Would that work ?

Cheers

i had considered it and was looking at your website last night for ages thinking (thats how sad I am)

tempting if i was going to get a HiD torch.

at the moment that puts in at the top end of the budget and excludes the fun of building my own. i like making my own things and watching it fail then waste more money buying something that works

At around £120 for the torch + cable + batt + charger.

if i hacked the canister open and replace the batteries which I conveniently have some lying around. got some sewage tube have some in the office. costed around £80

£200

external charger cap (i guess i can fit it into the base of my larger torch canister if i wanted to) -£30

estimated £230 for the lot. the batt pack will look like crap but for £80 who cares.

but the "design flaw" of the poor fami connectors remain which concerns me. hmmmm and possibly other bits I have not forseen.
