Holy fajolies that's a bit bright.

Was chatting with Sweary Rob at Lumb Bros and he was jabbering on about a new couple of heads on the Greenforce range. 35W and 50W HID which apparently equate to something like 150w and 250W halogen.

Now I reckon my 21W Salvo is bright, nearly as bright as Missus Woz's 21W Darkbuster. Has anyone actually dived with a 50W HID and if you have, can it cut through steel?

Not yet used them, but apparently both new lights will run on a F2 battery. I use the Impact head 21w head and this is very very bright. I have a LDS owner who is buying the 50 w HID for testing purposes. Will give an update when available

I knew someone that had bought a 50W HID for replacing the halogen in the nose of his Aquazepp. I don't know if he ever got round to fitting it.

Does anyone know how a HID compares with a Halogen? Ie 21W HID is how many Halogen Watts? I've heard several different comparison figures but its quite a subjective thing.

It's bonkers how bright torches are getting. I used to have a Kowalski which was a lovely torch and was plenty bright enough for me. However have a look at it compared to Missus Janos' 21W HID.

Once she got that I had to get the 18W bulb upgrade from Nackers for my Salvo.

But where will it end? How bright will torches get? I can't see the milage in them getting much brighter as surely viz will be limited by backscatter. Or are torches going to get brighter and brighter until they eclipse the sun?

Son, you're going to have to make up your mind about growing up and becoming aircrew. You can't do both.

The aircraft limits are only there in case there is another flight by that particular aircraft. If subsequent flights do not appear likely, there are no limits.

$5500 for a torch?

Blimey! What are the specs on that? Give the cash to Woz and he'll flog you a dozen HIDs and with the leftover cash I'll knock you up something in the Shed to hold them all together in a giant array.

I think you need to reread your signature.

Hi Janos,

I believe for every 10W HID it would compare to about 35 Halogen Watts eg;

21W HID = 73.5 Halogen Watts

35W HID = 122.5 Halogen Watts

50W HID = 175 Halogen Watts

60W HID = 210 Halogen Watts

Some variables apply but the above example is a good rule of thumb.

Barrie.
