Talking I've got a HUGE one with a big shiney bulbous end!! :D

Hi all,

Last week I made the decision that I was going to get a nice shiney torch! The beastie that I decided on was the Greenforce F3 with the new 250W head!

Who else would I contact to talk about Greenforce torches but Lumb Bros! After a chat about the torch with Rob Lumb I was completely sold! I started the conversation pretty excited about my purchase but by the end of us I was ecstatic!!! What was cool was that Rob was just as excited as I was!

Two days later I was due to go to leave very early for the NDAC to do the Tech. Rescue course with Mark Powell and so really wanted to get my hands on it before then.

Without any talk about extra postage costs Rob said that it wouldn't be a problem and to make things even better for me he would put it on charge for the 7 hours before the courier would arrive! As promised the courier rang my doorbell at 0830 the next morning with a torch that only took me 2 hours to fully charge! YAY!

The mounting kit and goodman handle from Kent Tooling arrived shortly afterwards (and was a perfect fit and wonderfully built as we all know we can expect from the wonderful John Perrin, Kent Tooling) and, like a thing possessed, I assembled it all ready for my adventures the next day!

Details of the course are in another thread http://www.yorkshire-divers.com/foru...49-post41.html

The thing that isn't in the course report is how ENORMOUSLY bright this beast is though!!! Virtually the whole of the NDAC was illuminated!!! There is a bright spot in the middle which cuts through the thick murk and the spread of the light illuminates the surrounding area! Without the torch the vis was about 1 - 2m but with the torch this extended to 4 or 5m!

A trial out of the water was amazing! The light reached from one end of the NDAC to the far wall! It must be a good 150 - 200m!!!

If you want a light that will light up the whole world then this is the one you want!!
But if you're looking for a photography / video light then it could be too bright and the hot spot in the centre might not help you, and the light has a yellow tinge compared to an LED light. The yellowness becomes far less evident after a couple of minutes of use.

In summary I am MORE than happy with it!! Can't wait to give it a good trial on a darker deeper dive with better vis!

If you're thinking of buying one and want a look then perhaps we can hook up at Stoney or somewhere for a splash. Just yell!

Si

If you want to flood light the ocean then this is a serious bit of kit and well worth a look.

However if you use your primary for signalling and tracking then look elsewhere as this thing is an unfocused liability that will blind your entire team without ever revealing your location!

The size of the head on it looks a bit awkward to handle but big_si didn't seem to struggle and I didn't try it.

Looks as though it would make a great video light in clearer water.
