Anyone know where I can get the gubbings to convert this to non-R (I mean regular batteries)? ... to keep the weight down for travel purposes.

GoDive Paul, they do a baseplate you need

"Battery Plate set for non-rechargeable batteries (DR8) £1.99"

from memory you get a plate to put in the bottom, in go the 8 batteries, then a top plate, which then connects when you screw the lid down onto the reflector assembly
