Good Voltage Rechargeable AA batteries?

Hi

Does anyone know of some decent high voltage rechargeable AA batteries I can use for a torch?

I am currently using some High Drain NiMH 2500mAh I had for my digital camera, but when fully charged they only get up to 1.3V, Non rechargeable Duracell Pros are 1.7V when new.

The higher voltage gives me a brighter light, and doesn't look like I need to change the batteries in my torch after just charging them.

I am planning on using them with a Xenon bulb torch, so they need to keep their charge for a while as the xenon is high drain. As they will be rechargeable, I don't have a problem recharging often, but it would be nice to have longer than 30 mins on a set before they started to dull

Thanks
.

Rechargable AA cells are always 1.2V

Hi.u cant get a higher voltage than 1.7v ans as allready said rechargeables are allways 1.2 - 1.3v....soz...wat voltage is the bulb and do u have a piccy or the tourch u might want to try and modify the battery it takes with a different type like an intruder alarm battery...idont know without looking there are other possibillities...i use a crappy nova with a 35watt halogen in yet they only come with a 10 or 20 wat bulb u can play around with tourches...

The 1.7v are great, but I am looking for rechargeables at that voltage is possible.

I use a Salvo Back-up: 7.5 watt backup light Salvo, Backup lights at divingniknaks the UK's No 1 scuba gear online store
I may be able to change the innards a bit ie cut out the batter holder bit and find a SLA that will give me the voltage I suppose, but there isn't much room in there.

But, finding higher voltage rechargeables would be nicer if they actually exist.

As already stated recharceables are always 1.2V, but is is a fairly constant 1.2v, Disposables start higher but drop lower pretty quickly.
The salvo backup is a Princetontec Surge I think. I seem to recall that it has 8 AA cells, arranged in 2 sets of 4. Each set of 4 is in series to get the voltage, and the 2 sets are in parallel to give longer burn time. It shouldn't be too difficult to rewire so you have 5 AA in series, giving 6V (you would only have 1/2 the burntime though)
cheers

Yep, that's right

Well providing I use high drain rechareables, it should give me the ampage for a days's diving I reckon. Then as they are rechareagble, I just power them up again.

And as a plus, it will take a bit of the weight off the torch.

Sounds like a good idea Dave - Thanks.
