Now that I've finally done everything to my torch that I wanted to, I've put up my "how to" guide.

If anyone's interested in how I built a cannister torch for under £100, follow the link.

As ever, any feedback\advice\helpful flames will be appreciated

Hello Dom,
Eccelent stuff, especially how you modified the maglight. Does the Mag has a rotating head, if yes how you sealed that part ? Here is a link for the one I build, the light head is from AUL but one likes yours would have been a good and cheaper idea, the canister is from a SS pipe the only problem is that I did not have a lath and tig welding and had to beg a lot to get it done it cost me about 20sterling (labour was free not bad ?)

The Mag DID have a rotating head, insofar as it was on a thread. The head no longer moves, it was well and truly glued in place, and silicon sealant applied all around the edge. The only parts that move on it now are the ends, and the only one that gets removed during normal usage is the bulb end, to change the bulb.

I suspect your light, whilst being more expensive, is rather more versatile than mine, in that it's stronger and has a focusable lighthead.

Hello Dom,
I think that if you get the right reflector (bulb type) you will end up nearly with the same result. Mine came much expensive as I used Nimh batteries but till now is 4100mAh and with a 35watts bulb it gives me 65min but in the future I will put an other battery in to obtain 12v 8Ah.
If you have no tools and tight on budget your is the way to go, I liked very much the light head. On mine the worst part was the design but I read a lot of stuff from barrel o rings to check others designs.

Regards

Pierre
