| HID question anybody know if the wattages between diffrennt manufacturers are comparable. ie. is a 50w GF twice the brightness of a 21w salvo?? from the opinions on here it appears not? am I missing something? |

| As I said recently on another thread, wattage, equivalent wattage, lumens at the source - they can all be misleading. Line up two lights and shine them on a white surface. That way you can see which is brightest, which has the widest or nicest beam and so on.

| Light output is measurable as a power and a colour temp. Those are the parameters that actually matter, not the manufacturers 'marketing' with wattage claims. The whiteness of HID is alternately hated/loved depending on which faction you're crusading for (is this why divers are always talking about 'ponies'?). It does become important however if you're getting into video/photography, see; Color temperature - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Other things to watch out for;

| Lets put it this way... If a GF 100W HID was proportionally as bright as a 21W Salvo/Brightstar that would be almost five times brifhter and that would be one extremely brigt torch! I'm not so sure it is though Andy

| Here are two beam examples from a recent Diver comparison test. The lamps were comparable. Which do you prefer?

| Its usually that 21w HID is 100w equivalent . But different lights give differening results from my experience the best lights out there are the salvos and sarteks buts that my opinion. I dont like the fami hid, and the greenforce never quite cut it with me. |
