Not a Beaver Astro lamp then

Just buy a mini UK40. On your budget, you could buy enough of them to light most of the northeast. Why bother with a complicated, heavy canister torch when you can have one of these little charmers in your pocket?

The modular thing doesn't really appeal to me. If I wanted to swap lightheads you could get a new lid for a Salvo with a different head. Wouldn't take you much work at all. Plus in my experience it's sold as a feature but nobody really uses it. You might as well if you want a different torch sell the whole thing and get a complete new torch.

You shouldn't discount the Halcyon Pro 3 from your decision. Of course it's the only of the Halcyon torch products I'd actually buy, but it is really very good.

Digs.

Single tank and BCD to 30m in the north sea? Will you be utilising a pony? How is this mounted? How do you propose mounting a canister type system, on the tank? You may need to consider another bracket etc.. To me it all seems a bit messy and maybe for the depths you should consider a twinset with harness, would make life much easier for the umbilical torch, not to mention redundancy. Not trying to be awkward but just trying to point out a couple of things that may have been overlooked. (Haven't read all the posts mind so might have already been mentioned).

Greenforce did have a 10w Focusable HID on display at LIDS and very nice it was too. They are currently working on different flavours of the focusable HIDs with a view to launching around October IIRC.

Presuming he has a weightbelt and not integrated. I think we need more info as to current setup. From what I remember of BC's doesn't the cummerband and clips sit pretty much over a weightbelt, unless the belt is hanging off your ass this could still be awkward.
