Question Torch help please

Ok.Just had a rather pleasing winfall so I've got a couple of quid to play with on new toys.
I've been looking at the kowalski umbilical set ups and they look rather good but the burn time aint too hot. I own a couple of kowalskis,a 1200 and 1200speed, and LOVE them, which is why I thought instantly of their umbilical units.
So what are the other options in the £1000 range? I like the sarteks but I'm lead to believe that they leave a dark patch in the centre of the beam which would do my nut in and they're not quite as bulletproof as some of the others on the market. HID seems to be the way to go but I'm not overly impressed with the bluish colour tinge on the light.
Any ideas?

Do I need to say it?

But Salvo are pretty damn good!

Tough as well.

I've got one and I've lost count of the number of times I've dropped the head and it's still on bulb No1.

If you're lookign to spend £1000 on a torch, I can't see why you'd go for owt else.

I'm in the same boat.

Used a Kowalski 600 speed for the last 2 years, the light is excellent but the burntime is a bit short, especially for 2 dives a day.

Decided, after a bonus, to get one of these:
SOLUS Submersible Products - Homepage

Good burntimes, solid as a rock, signalling ability is not top priority as I use my torch to illuminate wrecks and fishies.

Hope to get my grubby little claws on one in the next week or 2 and when I do I'll post a report.

Cheers

Shane

I have the 4.5 Ah NIMH 10 Watt Focusable Salvo for £470 from Nackers. What a difference to other people's torches at 30m in the Farnes recently. Basically, these were 'night' dives, but my Salvo lit the way...

Despite owning a Salvo and it's jolly nice my recommendation would be to....

Spend £230 on a Darkbuster 21W rechargeable HID (same bulb as the Salvo) and spend the other £770 on going on a nice diving holiday.

Umbilicals are great at what they do and if you are penerating 3 miles into a cave system you need the long burntimes. However if you don't then they are just plain old willy-waving.

Anyway. If Salvo could make the battery connections the same as the Halcyon umbilicals then they would be the Best Torch by Miles. If Halcyon switched to the Brightstar bulbs instead of the Welch Allyn ones then they would be The Best Torch Too. Alternatively maybe a Greenforce one would be the way to go- they use Brightstar bulbs. However I've never owned one so can't comment on how good they are.
