Thanks for all the replies, I've lost the fear and got the torch. Looks good and solid, will let you know how I get on when I get it underwater. Could have done with it on Sunday as it was a bit dark and snotty off Littlehampton.

What did you go for in the end? The 9ah ni-mh 21W? I dive around 10W, 18W, 21W and 35W all the time and they are all lovely bits of kit. The 10W is good enough most of the time *if* it has an EKPP reflector fitted. Team signaling and tracking (especially scootering) in typical UK vis really needs 18W and above. There's not much between the 18W, 21W and the 35W. The 35W looks to be a different colour in the water and it may go *slightly* further but TBH you'd be hard pushed to tell the difference between the 3 of them. I don't understand people that say the 35W is only good as a video light or it produces too much back scatter - utter shit. It performs pretty much identically to the others just fractionally better For video use a video light. D'uh...

I went for broke (literally) and got the 21W 9ah. Thought it best to make sure I could do two dives on one charge. One thing is that the beam seems to have a white/blue outside edge with a yellowish centre, others I've seen look more consistent. I've spoken to Phil at niknacks and I'm going to be comparing it with others to find out whether I'm being over sensitive which is quite likely. I just wish I could afford another, but will probably settle for the 21w and save the £££ for something else. Jimbob good choice you will not be dissapointed with it.

In terms of why would you use a 35W, it's very useful for spotting. I've done a few dives with a pro photographer - he's had a good number of covers of Dive, Diver etc. and when he dives he takes about 4 groupies - 2 to hold immense home made lights (35W HID IIRC, but I could be wrong) and spot subjects, and 2 to carry three or four different cameras. It's bloody impressive... he's taking or setting up photos for the whole 45 minutes, and never has to look for things himself. 100% utilisation of time.
