Thanks Rob, can you adjust the reflector in the light head? might have a look at moving it forward slightly.

Thanks. I'm sure all my concerns will disappear once I get it out on a wreck.

Basically stand 6-10' away from a flat wall in the dark and switch the light on. Adjust the focus of the beam until you have the tightest spot you can and tighten the screw back up to secure the reflector in place. Take it diving. If the beam seems really uneven or if it has some strange mis-coloured dead spot then try rotating the reflector head. The imperfection will either move with the reflector, disappear or stay static. If it moves with the reflector then you need a new one (tell Phill). If it disappears then all good. If it stays in the same place then something very odd is going on with your tube / bulb and Phill will have to sort it. I have never known this scenario but I guess it is possible... HTH

Does anyone have any views on the best buy between the greenforce f2 umbilical and the AA12 umbilical and then coupled with the tristar+ head or the HID50 (variable considered) head? Have been trawling around and these seem to be the best buys that I have found, have also managed to find them about 25 quid cheaper at a local dive shop that I didn't even know existed, god bless the internet!

Ben, Which LDS? Didn't know there was one your way? Have you already got the GF, or are you looking to buy one complete? If you've not bought already I wouldn't buy the GF. There's better torches for the same price. Digs.

Was looking at the prices in aquasport for the GF so not sure about a LDS. which do you use ant what would you reccommend in the way of a torch? Prefer the idea of an LED torch, better burn times and easier to replace. Currently use a UKLED from what I can remember without looking at the torch itself, think its a 40, not sure though.

Aquasport are lovely. I'm still a bit fuzzy on the inside about last time I went in. I think I'll go back sometime soon, just to feel lovely again What's the budget? Hard to reccomend a torch without knowing the range you're in. Digs.

Looking at the GF stuff you're basically looking at £300 upwards. I'd go for a Halcyon Pro 3 for that money. Either that or the bottom end Salvos. You're not going to get a decent LED light (so fat the only one which can compete IMO is the Solus range) for that money. The tristar has been left wanting when I've dived with people using them. Either that or for £150 you could have a Brightstar, they're bright as buggery by the looks of the photos, and cheap as you like. It's lantern not umbilical, but then it's £150. As a stopgap until the LED torches get better or cheaper it's not a bad idea. Digs.

As a back up I like LEDs but not as a primary. HiDs still rule as far as primary are concerned despite what some vendors will tell you. LED should catch up with and hopefully even improve on HiD performance one day but not yet. I agree with Digger about GF - there's much better lights out there. Never seen a decent GF light and never seen a bad Salvo.
