I think, if I do upgrade then a HID may be the way to go then. I have 2 LED torches at the min, the 9 LED is great with no particulate in the water and my main is bright as but like I said, with particulate, rubbish. I tend to get a lot of back scatter with both. My back up, a mini Q40 is great but not really a 'main' torch. Cuts through great but not a main, hence why I am looking for something better. Had just heard good things about the tristar LED head, things like it was an equivalent of a 50W halogen etc.....

For 'clean' water, the LED has many advantages, just wanted to weigh everything up before spending any real cash.

Digs, in response to your statement, am looking at spending about 400ish. About time work gave me a bonus I can use well!!

I had the fear, I got the torch and now....I'm a believer.

Took the HID on a TDI course, was slightly concerned about using unfamiliar kit but I'm very glad I had it. Being able to signal from a distance was excellent. It managed five dives totalling 4 hours on one charge and changed the way I think about dive lights, as a big torch it's pricey but as a piece of communications equipment it's worth every penny. Phew!
