Ballpark costs to repair a Halcyon 10w HID?

My torch has well and truely died. I flooded it in fresh water a couple of months ago and thought that it died, but amazingly it came back to life and worked after a throuough drying out.

I thought the reason I flooded it was that I hadn't put the top on correctly, so took it diving this weekend in the sea. The bloody thing flooded again and it was definitely all put together right as a I checked it twice.

Seawater was in if for possibly the whole day as I only realised when I got back to the harbour and unloaded my kit (it worked fine on both dives ????). Now all the connectors are corroded, the bulb has water inside it (and probably blown) and the wires look distincly oxidised.

I was planning to send it back to Halcyon (via UE in Portland) for a fix - does anyone know how much it may cost and whether it is worth it? It's the cheapest 10w HID at around £300 and I've had it a few years. As well as the knackered components there is definitely a leak somewhere that has nothing to do with user error.

Are they going to charge me more than the torch is worth? Is it worth getting a new one and having the non-corroded parts as spares? Or do I upgrade the latest and greatest Salvo 21w

I've seen plenty of people throw good money after bad trying to resurrect their Halcyon lights before giving up and moving on, so my my initial thought is just got for the 9ah 21W Salvo (truly a thing of beauty).

Having said that it is definitely worth a call into UE as they have sorted people out in the past who have had similar issues and I've never heard a bad word said about the service. If they want silly money to get it back up and running then that makes the decision for you, but if they are prepared to do you a favour then you'd be mad not to accept it.

My 2p.

A Halcyon 10W HID?
Mine always flooded except for the times when the bulb broke.
So in the end I sold it.

I have gone LED.
I had a happy weekend rebuilding FaMi's idea of a Goodman handle into my idea of one but other than that I'm quite pleased with it. It's not quite the light saber the Halcyon was on spot focus but for real diving it's a nice light.

Bloody hell Nigel, you got £112 for it? It's tempting to give it a go and put the profit towards a new one. £100 is a third of the way there...

Alright, now I'm confused

After another week of drying out, the torch seems to be working again, except for the battery where the connector has corroded off. I found I can plug the lid and bulb directly into the charger to test it, which is a good way of telling if the battery is working or not. Not sure if I should be doing this or not

Anyone know where I can get a new connector for the battery - Maplins??
