Salvo solder there packs together.
so before everyone tells you you need to weld them.
yes they solder none taged batteries.

best way ive found is to grind the top and bottem with a dremel just enought to rough up surface. This seems to help solder run / flow.

all the books and information around tells you that the heat form soldering will damage battries. If I were cave diving I would want a welded battery pack or one I had used a few times to make sure it was good.

charger

[quote=divingdingo;734677].
all good, i've actually bought an intelligent charger off ebay that is supposed to do the lot from lith ion, nimh, etc just incase i decide to upgrade the pack in future and it cost around the same. fingers crossed that it will do what they say it will do.

Hi would be interested in such a charger, can you post a link, or the make and model?
Thanks.

OK I know nothing about umbilicals and electrics, soldering but:

My UK D8 takes 8D cells. Nothing soldered there!
So IF you can find a way to reliably fix the batteries together that ensures the contacts keep touching and use some thin strips of copper to conect the ends of you collumns of batteies... to conect to the lead going to the torch head you probably need to solder a cable onto said copper strips or use those contact thingis that crimp on the end of cables (+ solder for durabillity?).

I would not trust s spot of soldering between 2 batteries to last.
Maybe it is just my soldering but even the slightest sideward stress or knock on 2 batteries joind that way I think would break the solder.

I've made my own pack from cells and used an Ansmann charger. Worked a treat and was lots cheaper than buying a manufacturer replacement.
