Torch that doesn't weigh a ton

Hello folks,

My buddy and I have just booked onto a liveaboard out of Sharm in Sept - am so excited!

I assume we'll be doing a few night dives over the week so I'll be needing a torch (always rented one for the odd night dive here and there previously).

Now, given that our luggage allowance is a measly 20kg and we paid a little bit more than planned for our holiday, does anyone have any recommendations for a relatively cheap torch that wont eat into the 20kg too much?

Only for use in blue water so doesn't need to be super powerful!

Thanks

Princeton Tec Shockwave LED. 2 power levels and you can take the batteries out before you travel, buy a new set out there to save the weight and a set should last all week (depending on how much diving you do). Under £100 too.

Hi Lottie,

I know that Lidl were selling an underwater torch recently (LED white or blue light) for a measly £5.

Sounds cheap I know but a couple of people that I dive with use them as back-up torches and they've never complained about the output. They're small and hardly take up any room in your luggage.

Enjoy your holiday - hope you have a fab time!

The Tektite Trek 4 is supposed to be pretty good.

SL6 - Bullet proof torch that has a very bright point beam.
Good for use in day time as a spotter as well as the night dive.

Buy 6 batteries in duty free and that will last you all week and more.

LED Lenser Frogman.

They've recently made it brighter, but for blue water even the old one is more than good enough - About 40 quid. Worked pretty well inside the Thistlegorm as well.

I got one of the lidl torches and can confirm that they are great value for money, especially for night dives, as they are not too bright.

I would also recommend pretty much anything from UK, they are also great value for money.

I use a Peli Sabrelite 2010 LED, it runs off 3x C cells so you can carry it empty to save the weight then buy batteries in duty free. It produces a lovely beam thanks to the clever reflector design and lasts for ages on one set of cells.
