what torch if buying in the US

I'm off to the US in a couple of weeks and wondered if the favourable exchange rate could be made to work in my favour, I have a budget of about £300, any suggestions or am I as well of buying over here?

See what Salvo have on offer. I was tempted by a Nightrider once but I didnt go for it and I am glad as several problems seem to have folowed those that did

I would go for the Sarteks HID's very similar to Salvo's but cheaper.

Sartek Industries, Inc. Complete HID Lighting Systems

Thumbs up

Salvo?? No!!

You want to get a Sartek.

If you budget is ~£300 Then :

Sartek Industries, Inc. Complete HID Lighting Systems

CBPS4.5H10MR11S
10 Watt Fixed Focus 6 degree HID System with 4.5AH NiMH Battery Pack in Screw Cap PVC Canister (Belt or Backplate Mount),with the new rotary switch, HID10HC- Harness Clip, Protective Rubber Cover and Universal Trickle Charger (100-240 VAC). Burn Time 4 hours

MSRP $595.00

Thats a staggering £291

Look at what I've just ordered:

CBPS4.5LIH21C
21 Watt Focusable HID System, 10.4AH Lithium Ion Battery Pack in Screw Cap PVC Canister with the new rotary switch (Belt or Backplate Mount), HID-GSHR Adjustable Rigid Goodman Handle, and Universal Fast Charger (100-240 VAC) and Car adapter. Burn Time 4+ hours

MSRP $995.00

Thats only £487 for what is an £800 Salvo !!!

SHipping to the UK is $55, Its a no brainer. Shipping to the US is $15, and buy it outside of New York State and you don't even pay tax.

Three weeks ago I bought from Dive rite express a 10W HID:

Dive Rite HID Lighting Systems...Head, Bulb, Canister, Battery, Charger, Guide

Very straight forward to do ,You do have the import duty (£60 approx) but even with that a very good price. even with this still cheaper than from the UK It only took four days from ordering it to delivery If you are in the states even better with the pound/dollar exchange rate at present.

I have used the light and it works very well the slim line battery pack is also very nice, hardly know it is clipped on. If you buy it at the present you even get a nice free case to carry it in.

Andrew.

I bought the 10w HID from Sartek a few weeks ago, very helpful staff good torch too. I would recommend it.
Only down side is that the on/off switch is on the battery pack, I would prefer it on the head.

Dave,

Your comparison does not include VAT and Import Duty so you're actually nearer to £650 when you add those in plus shipping.

We get this all the time (almost daily) and it's very misleading due to the fact that the US websites do not include any taxes where most EU sites do include it.

As for Salvo v Sartek, I'll only be seen as biased so I'm not commenting

To answer PeeBee's original point, just be aware that you may get clobbered for VAT and duty on the way back in to the UK. Although the reality is you more than likely will not.

Make sure that whatever you buy has a UK support available, as your saving will get swallowed pretty quick if you need to send it back to the states. Some do have it, some don't.

Hope that helps
