I bought an SU-1000, then had it upgraded to become an SU-25000, which it using what Solus are colling Gen2 technology.

Basically Gen2 is more efficient, so the 2500 is a fair bit brighter on full power, and it's low power setting is a bit less bright but much more time (10hrs), compared to SU 1000.

Also 2500 has better charging setup in that charger plugs into pack base rather than pack base stands upon a charging plate.

Make no mistae though the SU 1000 is a good torch and that's not a bad price if in good nick. Though it sounds like you ight want to contact Mr F before taking any action...

I have almost finished a report on the new Souls

I can imagine anyone being disappointed with the performance of the Souls 1000 but as i said in my report its not the very tight beam offered by the Slavo.

I have been using the new SU1250 for about a month now and i like it a lot. It has a couple of advantages over the S1000 in that its much more compact, lighter and its got a decent Goodman's handle.

Performance wise it compares with the SU1000 but claims 25% more light output. Again its not a pencil lazor beam like the Salvo 21W but its very white light and very usable for all sorts of diving.

Full report and pics will be posted once I have managed to put some video together.

My 2p is thats a great price for a great torch. UNLESS you want a lazor pencil torch in which case don't get it.Or of course unless Mick knows something about its history thats off putting.

No no! I should clear this up. I have an SU1250 and am absolutely delighted with it. My message to Roger was about another offer I know is going on one.

I would recommend the Solus to anyone, plus it's handy having the manufacturer just down the road.

Sorry for any confusion caused.

No but if anyone out there has one and wants to put it into the water next to a new Salvo 21W Rebel then drop me a line...

Thumbs up

Roger, that deal or the one Mick has for you is a pretty good one.

I'm using two SSP torches at the moment - a secondhand SU500 primary with a Goodman handle and the new backup torch which has a tighter beam.

On the umbilical I could get the new LEDs to bring it up to the same spec as the SU1250 although the light as-is is bright enough for my current needs so I'm not going to bother for a while.

I got a new charger from the lads at SSP and may get the base plate charging mechanism replaced by the new plug-in mechanism shortly.

I'd also advise getting a Goodman handle fitted. I really like being hands free especially when diving CCR

Kevin and Niall at SSP have been tremendous in their support.

Cheers, Stephen
