This is the torch I have at the moment. Very solid but as you can see, doesn't have a HID globe. Is very bright tho and am happy with it. The switch is a screw in handle. I end up constantly having to screw the handle back and forth to make it fire. These types of torches are nice and neat tho, but for 500+ pound? It's still only a torch! (Hope my conversions are right - $1200-1400 AUD)

From the website: "This light comes standard with a 35watt Dichroic IRC globe with either our AL01 or AL08 Magnetic heads and has our unique 4Ahr Lithium-ion battery pack. The light is 80% more efficient than any standard halogen unit making it incredibly bright. The battery housing is constructed of stainless steel as used for the AL3000 and can be fitted with either straight or retractable cable. The IRC globes can be purchased in either 20, 35 or 50 watt and have a beam angle from 10 – 60 degrees. It weighs 1400 grams out of the water and only 500 grams negative in the water. The unit mounts the same as the Alpha 2000 on your tank cam band. "

I used to know these guys - alpha diving. I have one of their torches - it could well be 20 years old now and it still works like it always has.

I reckon they could fix a faulty switch for you without busting your bank ie for naught.

Yeah, you bet!

I had the dive shop clean the contacts which worked ok for a while but is now still playing up. Maybe I should send it off. All this has convinced me to get a 2nd torch tho!

Thanks

As people say, Missus Janos has one of these. Same 21W Brightstar bulb as my Salvo and it also has a 4.5Ah battery. Which means that I'm paying £400 for my umbilically-ness. Which makes me go "Nnnnnng" at times.

As people has said. Woz bought in a load.

don't buy a one from fleabay

If you decide to go for one of those, don't buy from ebay. I did and the torch had a major defect in quality - the bezel does not seal against the o-ring so would have flooded had I dived it. Mails later to both the supplier and supposedly the factory hailed a "sorry" we can't to anything about it approach. So, mailed back the seller and demanded a refund. I got it in the end, and they never asked for the torch back so I ended up with a surface use torch.
Buy one from Woz if you do, you then get UK support service!

I bought one from Woz and have nothing but good things to say about it, although lots of umbilical owners aren't that impressed because it's half tthe price :-)

very bright, a good spot and decent battery life, and no issues with toughness, or build quality - and decent price too

Tell me about it. Missus Janos has an identical bulb and a similar battery-size to my Salvo.

Is there a UK dealer for these now? Woz doesnt appear to have them on the site any more and google isn't that helpful.

Ebay has one guy selling them for £199 + £10p&p but could this be the original dodgy batch?

(Looking at replacing my D8R since it tried to burn my house down and stuck between UK light cannon and this for a decision).
