Question Salvo and rib diving?

Happy New Year All!

Would I be completely mad to consider using a Salvo (or similar HID umbilical) for RIB diving? I am aiming to do some diving work (see avatar) where great lighting would be very helpful but delivery to and collection from site will sometimes be by RIB so would then be diving single cylinder rather than twins via lift/hard boat. Would a Salvo survive with (hopefully) careful handling?

Thanks for any suggestions/comments

Mine has survived several RIB dives! It helps if you clip it fairly high on your harness or BC and make sure the boat crew know it's there when they pull your cylinders into the boat. Of course having nice soft, bosomy counterlungs helps to protect it too.

Nigel,

Most of my diving is from a RIB, using a twinset/longhose and a nice umbilical torch mounted on the waistband. It happens to be a Salvo too, but I don't think that matters. I have had no problems so far with all those long postential snags. When dekitting I help push up the kit, checking for snags. The torch head is clipped off pointing down. During transport I use a plastic cup cover (tupperware type of thing) that fits on the torch rim.

Apart from the lid, I don't give it special care above that of any of the rest of my kit - it is all expensive and important.

HTH,

Adrian

Most of my diving is RIB based as well. I have the Salvo 10W and several others in my club have various Halcyon lights. No one has had any problems with the torches on the RIBs. All with these torches dive with a DIR/Hog style rig.

As long as you take a bit of care whilst getting the kit back on board, and things are kept neatly stowed on board you should be fine from my experience.

Why would it not survive RIB diving ? Unless it is hauled back onto the boar by its lead surely it should be fine. Either that or its a poorly designed or built piece of kit, which I am sure it isn't.

Thumbs up

Nigel,

I had the wetmates fitted at the factory when I pruchased mine, so I can pass it up separately before hand.

Thanks to all for useful comments. I have lost the plot and given my credit card details to a Sartek supplier in US. Will post brief report on this forum when I've had a chance to play
