Red face ni-mh or li-on battery?

I am thinking of purchasing a new hid torch as soon as the cheque clears from the man I had to sell a kidney to to be able to afford one
afaik there are 2 types to choose from: li-on or ni-mh and I was wondering if anyone could argue the virtues of one over the other?
Li-on - larger capacity but shorter lifespan.
Ni-Mh - smaller capacity but longer lifespan or is it just semantics?
Answers on a postcard please and thanks in advance.

As far as i'm aware Ni-MH batteries have a memory effect, so therefore if the battery isn't fully discharged it can leave you with less than perfect battery life.

Where as a Li-ON battery doesn't have a memory effect, and i think is lighter as well for the power output.

Hope that helps.

Ni-Mh don't have a memory. It's Ni-Cad you are thinking of.

On this subject can anyone shed light on this:

Umbilical lights : Lighthouse Diving Ltd : Kowalski Diving Lamps

Quote:
Due to recently announced EU Legislation, the use of Nickel Cadmium batteries in underwater torches will be prohibited from 1st January 2008. As a result, Kowalski are developing new systems using Lithium Ion batteries. Nickel Metal Hydride batteries used by many other torch manufacturers are not considered by Erich Kowalski to be up to the task of powering his lamps. Kowalski are, therefore, not making any new Umbilical battery packs until the new battery technology is in place, tested and approved. Unfortunately this is not likely to be until the middle of 2007 and, therefore, they will not be available until then. I am, however, sure that the new development will produce a much improved system and I know that it will be worth waiting for!!!
Is this claim correct - Ni-CAD batteries not legal from now on in diving torches?
