Question Torch for the 'uvver 'arf?

Right... Here's the situation.

Other half's not been in the water for about a year now and before she got out had a bit of a loss of confidence.

She's still interested in diving and we're going to Scapa in August. Before then we'll be doing some 'training missions' to get her confidence up with her buoyancy and stuff.

One thing that helped her confidence previously was diving with someone with a big torch, especially in lower vis situations. So my thinking is that I'll get her a torch to give her a boost of confidence.

Obviously fancy spangly torches aren't that cheap so I don't think it's going to be a 21W HID Salvo or anything in that price bracket.

I have a 250W HID Greenforce and it's the brightest thing in the world (as any of the poor souls who have experienced it's wide spread beam in their eyes will confirm... If they can still read YD ) so thought that perhaps a greenforce of some description might be sensible due to it's modularity...

However I also saw a thread on the 10W HID handheld Salvo today too. It's got a goodmans handle which appeals and the price is pretty good... (and it would be a useful back up for me if she wasn't diving, or a good holiday diving torch) but I'm not sure that I've seen any reviews of anyone on here who has one?

So, is the 10W handheld Salvo going to be good enough for down to 40m UK diving? What do people think of them?

So YD... It's over to you.... What do you think?

I have the 10w Salvo fixed-focus umbilical & it's an absolutely cracking torch for UK conditions. I would thoroughly recommend it

I assume that the handheld is the same as mine, only without the umbilical & a smaller battery pack, so about 1/2 the burn time (2 hours vs 4 hours). I like the umbilical - being of the clumsy persuasion, I want to have £400's worth of torch securely attached to me, thank you very much - but that's just a personal preference thing

It's close to the Salvo 10W focusable but *slightly* less focused and therefore doesn't quite go as far. More a long the lines of a top of the range LED in terms of beam projection (but obviously without the spread).

I think they're a top bit of kit but I can't quite justify buying one as I already have 3 HiDs.

I'm sure it never crossed Si's mind!

PM Jo Rawley. I believe she has the hand-held 10w Salvo.

hi Si,
I would wait a bit for the new additions to the Halcyon light range to hit the shops later this year ..... Or you might kick youself later.

If you need a current light Halcyon has one of the most cost effective HID in the proteus three.

Regards

David

That's a good point. Didn't really consider that.
