NIMH, are greener. Nicad delivers faster discharge so supposedly better for high power torchs/tool etc but has more of a drop of if left for a day or days, this is called the memory effect. NIMH is greener and in most cases the difference is fairly negligible. I am sure a clever electronic person will contradict all I have said except for the green bit. So NIMH for me HTH Last edited by Crieagle : 27-02-08 at 09:56 AM. |

| Nicads are being banned within the EC due to the problems of disposing of cadmium so if you want Nicad, buy now while stocks last.

| NiMH are better than NiCads. They are a newer technology and have significantly larger capacity for the same physical size. NiCads are a thing of the past ! LiIons are the way forward but due to different voltage cells you cant currently use then to replace normal dry cells. A few manufacturers are starting to use them in there new rechargable torches though. They are considerably smaller still than NiMH and much lighter. I cant believe that some manufactures still sell lead acid torches. How primative. |

| My car still has a lead acid battery.

| Agree drunk Li ion they are the future. They suffer from a shorter life but that is getting better as thet keep updating the chemical side of the batteries. They kill the fish mark. Plus how will you start the car if you take it diving |

| hello you all if you get aa batteries you can get adaptors that they slide into to make them c type batteries from maplins for about 50p each good luck adrian

| Hello at all, you are right, NiMh has some advantages to NC (capacity, no memory eff.), but the lifetime of many NC types are much better. The D cell by Sanyo (NC) has in our lamps a lif time up to 14 years. The new NiMh cell by Sanyo with 4,5 Ah has a life time of 3 years only and is nothing for divers, they only dive in hollidays. The second big disadvantage of NiMh is the sensitivity to cool temperatures. Diving lamps with NiMh accumulators loose capacity in cold water dives. All this was the reason for us to change to Lithium-Manganese-accumulators: these cells are absolutly shure, have a long life (2 year warranty time for the accu), dont know any kind of memory effect and has nearly nothing on self-dischgarge. LiMn is a low-maintenance, powerfull cell with all its advantages the best accu type for diving lamps. They are by the way the only accumulators, which are approved by the producer of this cells for charging in closed housing. Charging of NiMh in closed housings is expressly forbidden.
