Question what do you think of ....

1, Halcyon proteus 3 10 watt HID umbilical
2, Gibielle tritone 12v 50w 4 LED umbilical
3, Sartek 10watt HID 4.5amp umbilical
4, Custom Divers 10w HID umbilical

Looking for a umbilical 2nd hand that won't breal the bank. My current diving is max 35m with a bit of wreck penetration (with fairly easy eccess to surface).
I want something that can grow with my diving plans - to go twinset and deco in the next 18 months, with a trip to scapa thrown in.

I have 2 days in plymouth organised for start April that I need a decent torch for. I currently use a technisub lumen x4 (which I got free with the Diver subscription). It's not brilliant but is fine for poking around the sterngarth hold, now looking for something a little more substantial.

Any advice happily revieved!
Cheers
Chris

as your fairly local to me, if you want to borrow a 10W CD HID for the weekend to see if you like it

its not for sale as its my primary spare but if I'm not away with it, your welcome to borrow it (with the usual rules of course)

Not a lot - max £250. I had looked at getting a handheld salvo from Niknaks for £285, but I think I would prefer an umbilical.

I have spent way too much over the last year on diving kit an Laura is now starting to realise JUST how much I have spent.

It is getting that bad I had to buy her a brand new megane on Friday to keep the peace. The deal was not bad £172 a month for a brand new megane 1.6 extreme II with a few toys. That is until you consider her current car does approx 100 miles a month (2 miles a day each way to the train station). So each mile she drives now costs me £1.72 just in finance!

I have a tritone handheld (the umbilical is identical head/battery and literally just has the cable instered) and it's been great as a backup. Takes loads of knocks, tough as old boots and uses standard alkaline batteries for 8hrs burn.

It's probably not QUITE as bright as a 10 HID but certainly not far from it, probably as it's a fairly wide beam and not as spot as some of the HID offerings. Take the offer of borrowing a CD one, they are a nice bit of kit and you can judge others by that. The Halcyon is a very tight beam and not as robust as the CD or tritone. Not used a sartek so can't comment on that one but do know someone who had one and it's very similar to the halcyon.

If you go to the dive show that's the best place to compare if you can - but bare in mind lights behave differently underwater - LED is not good in daylight and some of the cooler HID are the same - they are too close to daylight. Check bulb costs too as that may influence things. My handheld Tritone was £120 !!!! it's a backup to my metalsub 50w HID.

There is a Sartek for sale atm here: FS: Suunto D9, Suunto Transmitter & Sartek 10Watt HID
They are pretty good and I almost bought one second hand till the owner pulled the add.
I bought a new Salvo 10w from Phil at Nakkers but it made me very happy on its first outing in spite of the cost.
Cheers
Paul

Pro 3 perfectly ok for the diving you're planning, but you won't get one for £250 new. Cheapest you can expect is probably £300 at a dive show or if you do a really good deal, but Halcyon discount can be hard to come by.

CD HID is a good torch, will certainly take the beating dive gear gets, and I know several divers very happy with them.

Never heard of or seen the Tritone thingy, might be best to wait to see wht the reviews look like, not seen any thus far but happy to learn if there are some out there.

Digs.

Had one. Well the 6, with the bigger battery.

After 4 bulbs and a cable and still ending less dives working than it failed on I tipped the water out and ebayed it "starts at 1p, no reserve".

There are probably better choices.
