The wattage quoted by Halcyon and Salvo relate to the actual electrical power used by the light.
The wattage quoted by Greenforce relates to their comparison of the HID to a halogen lamp.

The Greenforce impact 100 is a 21 Watt HID that GF reckon is similar in output to a 100Watt Halogen. It is not a 100 watt HID lamp.

The GF impact/compact 100 puts out the same amount of light as a 21 watt Salvo / Halcyon or the SOLUS SU-500.

All are good lights with many happy owners.

KevinJ is spot on the the greenforce wattage.

50w Greenforce same as 10W Salve
100w greenforce same as 18/21W Salvo.

I have a greenforce 50w focasable, but the focus is not nearly as good as that of the Salvo. The greenfoce focus is by twisting the end of the head for which I always accidently turn it off, or nearly unscew the head.

The salvo focus (as far as i know from the year old models ive seen) are flick a switch instant wide beam or narrow beam.

None of you are mentioning prices. I've been saving since Christmas for a decent torch. Then got my council tax, water bill and TV license reminders all in in one week.

Are all of these £400+? That seems to be about the range I was looking at. Is there anything for about £250 that is good for 35 metres or so? Bimbles and photos are the sort of thing I do for fun. Or should I just stick to the old halogen rechargable?

There are some good lanterns for less than that (Lite Canon 9W HiD) and the Salvo 10W hand held HiD is around that price (and you can add a Goodman Handle to it).

I know of someone selling an OMS Phantom 10W HID torch, although it might be a bit bulky. I can give you his details if you're interested

PS....It's only been used on 2 dives and is up for £250......

i cant fault the solus lights they will take the knocks a lot of others wont , mine has been through the riggors of wreck diving off ireland and geting knocked up agenst stuff diving off a rib and shore and i dont see much point of a pencil sharp beam unless its in crystal clear water.
ive never had a problem using it to signal and diving in dublin bay is like scotch broth.
dont shoot me its just my 2p

Thank you Rob. I've been searching t'internet for ages. And there are so many torch threads on here I am getting more confused by the day. I guess I need to borrow a few and try them out.
