My first proper torch was to be a Kawalski, I went to buy one and came out with a Greenforce 10w HID on a F2 battery pack and an umbilical. I do all kinds of diving and I've never found it lacking. Nobody has ever complained that they can't understand my signals.

I've built on the Greenforce as I now have 2 F2 battery packs, 2 umbilicals and 3 different heads, I think the LED one burns for a 32 years before it needs charging (that's a joke). I have had one problem which was sorted out in a few days. I can't fault the service.

I don't think that you will get a bad torch with any decent manufacturer I got Greenforce before I'd heard of Salvo (Phil hadn't even joined YD then and the DIR lot were using lead acid Halcyon's) I have never needed anything else if I wanted a brighter torch I'd just buy a brighter head and as technology improves you just add to the Greenforce system, you don't need to change your torch.

However, for under £300 you can have http://www.divingniknaks.com/proddet...rod=10.102.010 and with a burntime of three and a half hours it will last longer than than my scrubber and should be bright enough for most recreational diving uses.

Time to dive.

got my torch (new toy)

Well i scrimped ,scraped and saved then took the plunge and bought a SALVO 21 WATT HID for well under £500 second hand. I was at stoney cove vis was shite 3 meter down to 2inch sometimes! So kitted up dropped in on the bus stop shelf once down to depth flicked the switch fffzzzz bulb flickered into action and a nice beam of light parted the gloom and kicked up silt that was hanging around. mmmm nice but not what i expected, nyway we got to the bus no 10 i think vis was still crap probably 4 or 5 mins when suddenly this bright blue intense white light boomed into the distance,(HOLY CRAP) i could see written in my buddies wide open eyes and a mumbled FUCHHIN EEEL through his reg.The salvo was only warming up before and then kicked into illuminate anything you feel like even if its 50 metres away mode Well a slight exageration but honestly its an awesome piece of kit and im real happy to now have one. Anyone thinking of buying a torch similar to this. NIKE it (JUST DO IT) you wont regret it.

might be something to consider

I know of a 10W Salvo for sale, I was interested but I've already got a CD10W umbilical and a CD10W handheld

Vonny, I am very happy with my Salvo 10w. Eeyore has also just got a Darkbuster (not an umbilical but a great torch for the price). I feel much more comfortable and 'safe' in the water with a good torch, and knowing my buddy has a good torch now too. We both know exactly where each other is all of the time as we can see the torch beams clearly and use them for signalling.

If you have a chance of a 10w Salvo I'd recommend I believe Jo Rawley also has the hand held version and is happy with hers.
